recent favorite bites

Barbuto - barbuto chicken with salsa verde: it's juicy, the salsa is spicy and tangy, and i freaking live for crispy chicken skin...

Phoenix Garden - peking duck and squab wraps. say it with me....peee joooohnnn

ilili - bread basket! labne and warmed eggplant

madangsui - everything tastes better with soju! or does the flavor of soju make everything taste better, by comparison?

chinatown brasserie - pork & lotus root pastry: fryer genius. i'll eat the dim sum here, any day

opera & minetta tavern

Jan 16 - swallowed a sandwich from salumeria on route to the met opera...literally, swallowed. saved half for intermission and had trouble concentrating during the 1st act bc of the wafting porky scents...

best part of turandot, other than nessun dorma?? my fav characters: ping, pang and pong, of course! ah!

headed to minetta tavern for a late, late dinner. our server was a charming, sweet french girl, who basically reversed all stereotypes for us about frenchies being rude. we started with the oxtail and foie gras terrine with poached leeks, which combined a terrifically unctuous and smooth foie gras, with a chewy and flavorful oxtail. Of course, the gelatinous bits added great texture.

So pleasantly surprised by the delicious black label burger (http://aht.seriouseats.com/archives/2009/03/secrets_of_minetta_taverns_black_label_burger_1.html). We loved how the meat actually tasted like meat (kind of a sad statement). It had great fat, added flavor (and fat) from butter as well as the sweet, caramelized onions. We were also pretty satisfied with the tavern steak topped with a pat of herb butter...though a bit overcooked and salty.

we basically kicked the sht out of the "late night snack."
